Ramaphosa Must Appear Before Zondo's State Capture Commission

Calls for President Cyril Ramaphosa to appear before the State Capture Commission are gaining momentum.

This is after High Court acting Judge Ngalwana filed his request to have the President testify before the commission. Judge Ngalwana's request is in line with the commission's rule 9.1 which states that any person who feels that someone may have oral evidence that cab assist the commission must make a written request to Judge Zondo.

Ngalwana further requested that President Ramaphosa's evidence be cross-examined by the commission on their role in the alleged corruption.

Advocate Ngalwana argues that Ramaphosa who was SA's Deputy President during former President Zuma's term, chaired the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) which was tasked to oversee the stabilization and reform of state owned entities.

More than R1 billion was lost when the Treasury initiated its Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) project. Treasury's Director General told SCOPA that basic financial management processes were thrown out the door. He blamed the loss on what he simply termed 'major mistakes'.

"My emphasis is simply to indicate that the Commission invite President Ramaphosa in terms of rule 9.1 to answer questions, under oath or solemn affidavit, about their role in relations to matters that fall within the Terms of Reference of the commission," Advocate Ngalwana added.

Former President Kgalema Montlanthe who was Deputy President to Zuma during the period 2009 to 2014 must also testify before the commossion.

Advocate Ngalwana also added Mr Pravin Gordhan who was Finance Minister of President Zuma to als give evidence on his role. Gordhan is responsible for the Treasury's IFMS project which lost billions of rands.
