"Theoretically you should protect all of the mucosal surfaces, so if you have goggles or an eye shield, you should use it."
Top US immunologist Dr Anthony Fauci has now changed his tune and added one more thing he says will help complete protection against COVID-19 protection.
You might need goggles for complete protection against COVID-19.
Dr Fauci was responding to a question asked during an interview with Dr Jennifer Ashton who is ABC News' chief medical correspondent. The question was whether is there going to be a time where wearing a mask is not only mandated but eye protection added.
Fauci explained that the only way you can have what he called "perfect protection" from COVID-19 is by having your eyes protected too. He said this "might" be mandated.
In an interview with Dr Jennifer Ashton, ABC News’ chief medical correspondent, Fauci was asked if we might reach a point where masks are not only mandated, but eye protection as well.
“If you have goggles or an eye shield, you should use it,” he said. “It’s not universally recommended, but if you really want to be complete, you should probably use it.”

There is a huge debate in the US about masks and citizens are getting into fights over others refusing to wear masks.
After Fauci comments, people wasted no time and took to social media to express their thought about wearing googles for 'complete protection.'
According to Fauci's explanation, infects mucosal surfaces — or parts of the body including the eyes, nose and mouth that secrete mucus to stop pathogens and dirt from getting into your body. So “perfect protection” of your mucosal surfaces would include covering every one of them up, he added.
“Theoretically you should protect all of the mucosal surfaces, so if you have goggles or an eye shield, you should use it,” he said.
Foci did not hesitate and called out four states by name that are struggling to get the virus in check. He and Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House's coronavirus task force coordinator, addressed these states in a call with governors Tuesday.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not issued a formal guidance recommending that people don goggles or eye protection. Protective eyesore is for now recommended for health care professionals.
It is reported that Qatar airlines has already asked flight attendants to start wearing goggles, full protective suits, masks and gloves.
A report report published in The Lancet suggests that people could be three times less likely to get infected if they wear eye protection. Face shields, goggles and glasses were associated with a lower risk of infection (6%) compared with no eye covering (16%).
"The findings of this systematic review and meta-analysis support physical distancing of 1 m or more and provide quantitative estimates for models and contact tracing to inform policy. Optimum use of face masks, respirators, and eye protection in public and health-care settings should be informed by these findings and contextual factors," reads the report.
