On the 15th of April 2020, Eskom issued a statement with lies that their corrupt COO has been cleared by the Advocate Cassim’s inquiry.
Eskom is accused of misleading the public about the findings made against the SOE's Chief Operations Officer Jan Oberholzer. In a misleading statement, Eskom stated that Oberholzer had been cleared by Advocate Cassim's inquiry. The inquiry was instituted following a series of allegations of corruption, dishonesty, conflict of interest and abuse of power were levelled by an employee against Oberholzer in both the media and to some civil society organisations. Advocate Cassim was appointed to conduct an investigation into the allegations and to advise the board and the Group chief executive André de Ruyter on the way forward.
On 15 April Eskom issued a statement indicating that its Oberholzer had been cleared by Advocate Cassim.
"The senior counsel has found no basis to the allegations of dishonesty, corruption, conflict of interest and abuse of power levelled against the COO... On all the other allegations against Oberholzer that were put before the senior
counsel, the board is satisfied that these have been fully and adequately ventilated and investigated, and that there is no cause for any action against Oberholzer, read Eskom statement.
It has emerged that Eskom lied about the findings and recommendations made by Advocate Cassim. What Eskom did not tell the public is that the report produced by the inquiry recommended that Oberholzer faces a disciplinary process.
EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu took to social media and accused Eskom of lying to the public about the outcome of the inquiry.
"On the 15th of April 2020, Eskom issued a statement with lies that their corrupt COO has been cleared by the Advocate Cassim’s inquiry. The report is out now and the guy was not cleared and he’s still in the employ of the utilty. Is this how you lead government?" read Shivambu's tweet.

It is not clear as to why Eskom issued a misleading statement which went against the recommendations of Advocate Cassim.
