[Exposed] R37 Million Barbed Wire Border Fence Looks Something Like This In SA

Minister of Public works Patricia de Lille is in hot water after images of what is believed to be a R37 million border fence make rounds on social platforms.

On Monday, a picture showing barbed wire fence which separates South Africa and Zimbabwe went viral. It is the same picture showed a huge hole that had been cut open on the fence that is supposed to prevent illegal influx of Zimbabweans to South Africa.

Many have demanded that De Lille reveals the name of the contractor, but she has resisted to provide such details to the public. It is not clear whether due process was followed when awarding the R37 million tender.

"Patricia De Lille has wasted R37 million of taxpayers on this cheap fence [Beitbridge] which has now be destroyed. Please investigate who was given this tender; what was the brief?" asked one Twitter user.

Minister De Lille has not provided details of how the fence was vandalized.
“The contractor has increased security personnel. The defence force has also been requested to patrol the border fence. This was a project by DPWI to secure the borders and repair and replace the fence which has been badly damaged. “I have requested that the department of defence increase security measures as reinforcement to protect our borders especially during the Covid-19 pandemic,” she said.
