There has been numerous reports claiming that Africans are not allowed in public spaces in China amid COVID-19 outbreak. China has since denied these reports and committed to act against anyone caught in the act.
To the contrary, a video of an African male being assaulted by a group of Chinese has gone viral on social platforms. The video is reportedly taken by those who accompanied the gentlemen in a mall in China.
A report carried by Aljazeera newspaper revealed African leaders are angered by reports that China is targeting Africans and are being evicted from their homes. Similar reports that previously made news headlines sparked a dispute with the African Union, African governments and the United States.
More than 10 million Chinese nationals live in Africa today. There are no reports of their targeting and they are never a subject of xenophobic attacks.
It is not clear whether the video circulated on social platforms was taken recently, however reports of similar incident are on the rise.
