Ramaphosa's Eskom sale intentions rejected by Economic Freedom Fighters

"We will mobilize workers and communities to physically prevent any private company from operating Eskom power stations."

The Economic Freedom Fighters have rejected President Cyril Ramaphosa's 'expressed intentions' to sell Eskom's power stations.

This comes few days after Ramaphosa told the South African Editors Forum that he is most interested in having Eskom's power stations sold to private companies.

"I am most interested in looking at that option. It will help the local communities in those towns, it will secure jobs," said Ramaphosa.

"The EFF rejects the intention to sell off Eskom's generation to private companies and as part of this programme we will escalate our rolling mass action to all provinces. The EFF also cautions the potential buyers of Eskom power stations that we will mobilize workers and communities to physically prevent any private company from operating Eskom power stations,"read EFF's statement.

The EFF further called on all progressive forces to join hands with the party to fend off the capitalist capture of South African government under President Ramaphosa.

During his briefing to Sanef Ramaphosa expressed his belief that having more power producers generating electricity and selling to Eskom would "encourage competition. The EFF does not seem to share this sentiment.
