Today Google search engine has honour child Aids activist Nkosi Johnson with a doodle which appears on the landing page of search results.
Johnson died of Aids related illnesses in year 2001. He was born on February 4, 1989 which makes him 31 years of age today. At the time of his passing the soft spoken Johnson was the longest survivor born with the HIV virus in South Africa.
Year 2000 became a year of his prominence after he delivered his self-written address which was broadcast globally. Nkosi was addressing more than 10 000 delegates who attended the 13th International Aids Conference held in Durban.
"Hi, my name is Nkosi Johnson. I am 11 years old and I have full-blown Aids. I was born HIV positive. Care for us and accept us," said little Johnson in a packed hall.
"We are normal. We have hands. We have feet. We can walk, we can talk, we have needs just like everyone else."
When Nkosi Johnson's mother Gail Johnson who adopted him took him to Melpark Primary School in 1997, the school refused to accept him because of his HIV status.
Former President Nelson Mandela said that Nkosi was all those who were HIV positive as he set a good example of how to deal with the disease. Mandela was reacting to the new of Nkosi's passing in year 2001
