Former SAA Chief Financial Officer, Wolfgang Meyer, has shocked the court when he revealed that the company stood opposed to 30% black economic empowerment. This was revealed during Dudu Myeni's appearance in Pretoria High Counrt on a matter lodged by Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa).
Dudu Myeni is testifying in her delinquency case lodged against her by Outa and the South African Airways Pilot's Association. Both these organisations have asked the court declare Myeni a delinquent director. They also accuse her of mismanagement during her six years period as the chair of the board.
In a dramatic turn of events, Myeni lawyer Nqabayethu Buthelezi was cross questioning former SAA CFO about why there was fracas in the company about her push for 30% BEE policy. Meyer told the court that there was no issue with BEE policy until 2014 SONA when President Zuma announced his administration's desire to have 30% contracts awarded to black owned companies.
In response to SONA's speech, Dudu Myeni wanted SAA to implement the 30% BEE policy by awarding contracts to black entities, a move which sparked all her problems according to Meyer.
